In the public /slash film festival is seen as an unmitigated success story. In fact, Austria’s first and only Festival of Fantastic Film was close to shut down twice in the past 10 years. Each year the festival organization is confronted with the same nagging question: Shall we continue or simply give up? The discussion 10 years of /slash. How low can we go? features several natio- nal and international guests, who’ll talk with host Aram Haus about the endless financial struggle of fetival organizers, the inter- national relevance of genre film festivals, why public funders tend to underfund film-cultural events and possible solutions for this crisis.
