Dread as live stream: for the Youtube channel Horror Stories volunteers are equipped with body cams and sent to the “seven creepiest places on the planet”. The abandoned psychiatric hospital Gonjiam was closed after a mass suicide of the patients in the 1970s, but their ghosts are still there. The Horror Stories makers also have a few other tricks up their sleeve to drive the website clicks upward. But then the true horror begins to manifest. One of the big successes to come out of South Korea in the last year, the horror director Beon-sik Jeong managed to create an original and funny variation on found footage horror à la Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity that shows the genre in a completely new light.

Bum-shik Jung
marked his spot as a director in Korean horror films with Epitaph (2007). The award winning film was well received by horror film fans as well as critics for its beautiful shots and delicate mise-en-scenes. With his new film Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, he once again aims to captivate the audience with an interesting method of filming and a plot developed from a real haunted place in the world.
